The following webinars will provide an overview and raise awareness in the field of pressure ulcer prevention and management. It is recommended that attendees also make use of the resources and materials in the reference list to assist them in developing their knowledge, skills and attitudes in this important field of clinical practice.
Part I: Pressure ulcers the evidence base

This educational session will provide an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the skin and wound healing physiology. The speakers will then move on to raise awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the members of the interprofessional team in the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, highlighting the importance of collaboration and cooperation during the pandemic. Finally, exploring the components of a holistic assessment and the role of health and social care professionals in patient empowerment.

Part II: Pressure ulcers implementation in practice

This educational session will provide an overview of national approaches taken to support the implementation of consistently high standard of pressure ulcer prevention and management. Then the speakers will raise awareness of the findings of a systematic review of the evidence regarding the risk factors that make people more susceptible to pressure ulcers. Leading on to the tools available to assess risk. The session will then examine current practice in the categorisation of pressure ulcers within the realms of myths and truths, blanching and non-blanching erythema and assessing for pressure damage across different skin tones. Then review the latest evidence regarding pressure redistribution support surface use and keeping the patient moving. Finally introducing the Translation or Implementation into Policy or Practice (TIPP) theory that can be used to embed the relevant changes to clinical practice and policy to improve patient care.
